Zur Zeit des Katalogs von Rosen und Forshall bestand die Sammlung von Handschriften in Syrisch und Karshuni im British Museum aus 78 Titel. Zwischen 1838 und 1864 wurden 581 Handschriften in Syrisch, Karshuni und Mandäisch erworben. Der größte Teil stammt aus dem Kloster S. Mary Deipara in der nitrischen Wüste in Ägypten.
